Paystack, Mobile Money, or WhatsApp: How Checkout Actually Works on Cartly Hub
22 September 2026If you've bought from two different sellers on Cartly Hub and the checkout felt different both times, that's not a bug — it's by design. Every order goes through Cartly Hub's checkout first, where it's saved as a real order, but what happens after that depends on how the seller you're buying from accepts payment.
Path one: pay online through Paystack
When a seller accepts online payments, you pay right there at checkout — by card or Mobile Money, through Paystack. The order is marked paid immediately, the seller is notified, and you've got a record of the transaction on your account from that moment. This is the more typical path for sellers who sell regularly and want the order confirmed before they start preparing it.
Path two: order through WhatsApp
Some sellers — often smaller or newer stores — accept orders directly through WhatsApp instead. You still check out on Cartly Hub first, which saves the order with everything you selected (the product, the variant, the quantity), and then you're handed off to WhatsApp to confirm delivery details and arrange payment directly with the seller. The order record on Cartly Hub's side still exists either way; what changes is where the payment conversation actually happens.
Why this distinction matters before you pay anything
- A seller who only accepts WhatsApp orders isn't automatically less trustworthy — plenty of legitimate small sellers work this way — but it does mean more of the trust is resting on that specific conversation, not on a payment processor holding a record.
- If a seller pushes you to skip the Cartly Hub checkout entirely and pay a personal number directly with no order on the platform at all, that's a different situation — there's no record of what you agreed to buy, which is the exact pattern worth avoiding.
- Either real path — Paystack or WhatsApp-after-checkout — leaves an order in your account you can refer back to. A payment with no order attached anywhere does not.
What you'll see on the product page
Before you commit to anything, the product page tells you which path applies: a "Pay Now" button for sellers who accept online payment, or an "Order on WhatsApp" button for those who don't. Some sellers offer both, in which case you pick whichever you're more comfortable with — paying immediately online, or confirming details with the seller first over WhatsApp before paying.
